Kirtan

The sound that opens the heart

kirtan

A joyful, call-and-response style of chanting set to live music. No experience needed.

A kirtan leader singing at the harmonium while the group responds

Kirtan is the heart of what we do. The leader sings a line, the room responds. The melodies are simple, the words are repeated until they begin to feel familiar, and the energy of the room gathers over the course of an hour into something quietly remarkable.

You don’t need to be musical. You don’t need to know the words. You can sing, hum, clap softly, or simply sit and listen.

What kirtan typically includes

  • Minimal musical accompaniment, just enough to guide us.
  • A simple mantra repeated through several melodies over the hour.
  • A welcoming atmosphere where your camera can be on or off and your voice can be in or out.

Who kirtan is for

  • Anyone who’s never meditated and is curious.
  • Anyone who’s tried meditation apps and wants something with a heartbeat.
  • Anyone who loves music, regardless of singing ability.
  • Anyone who needs a peaceful hour at the end of a noisy week.
