a typical session
A walk-through of how we usually weave Gauranga Breathing, kirtan, and a brief closing into one welcoming hour.
The room opens about ten minutes early. Students drift in, say hello, settle their cameras or leave them off, and quietly get comfortable. There’s no expected greeting. You can chat or simply sit.
A leader introduces the breath practice. New students are guided through it slowly. Even regulars often report that this is their favorite part of the session because it brings the body back to the breath before the heart joins the sound.
The harmonium begins. The leader sings a line. The room responds. The mantra moves through several simple melodies, gathering energy and softening into stillness as the hour goes on. You’re invited to sing, hum, clap, or simply sit and listen. Nothing is asked of you that you don’t choose.
A brief moment of quiet. Sometimes there is a short reading or a few honest words from one of the long-time students. The room stays open for a few minutes after; you’re welcome to linger and chat, or quietly leave whenever you need to.
Kirtans are held Thursday nights at 8:00 Central Time.
